About the Destination

One of India's Five Sacred Lakes

Narayan Sarovar — meaning "Lake of the Divine Vishnu" — is one of the five sacred Panch-Sarovar lakes of Hinduism mentioned in the Shrimad Bhagwat Purana. The other four are Bindu Sarovar, Pampa Sarovar, Manas Sarovar, and Pushkar Sarovar. According to legend, when a devotee of Lord Vishnu sought water to drink, the deity created the lake from his footsteps — sanctifying the site forever.

Located at the westernmost tip of Kutch, near the Arabian Sea coast and the India-Pakistan border, the temple complex was built in 1828 by Rao Deshaji II. It contains seven shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Shiva, and other deities — all of which remarkably survived the devastating 2001 earthquake, standing today as a testament to their historical and spiritual significance.

Just 4 km away is the equally sacred Koteshwar Mahadev Temple — a Shiva temple built right at the edge of the Arabian Sea, offering spectacular sunset views. Legend says Lord Shiva gifted a Shivling to Ravana at this very spot. Devotees typically perform a complete yatra here, taking a holy dip in the sacred lake, performing darshan in all seven shrines, joining the morning/evening aarti, and extending the pilgrimage to nearby Mata no Madh and the historic Lakhpat Fort.
