A Royal Heritage Village with Centuries of History

Tera is one of the historic heritage villages of Kutch, with a history stretching back more than five centuries. Located in Abdasa taluka, the village preserves an impressive collection of royal, religious and traditional architecture, with Tera Fort standing as one of its most prominent landmarks.

The fort was built under the Jadeja rulers after Tera was granted as a jagir during the reign of Deshalji I. It later suffered major damage during a three-month siege in the reign of Maharao Lakhpatji, when artillery was used during the conflict. The fort walls were also affected by the 1819 earthquake and subsequently repaired.

Beyond the fort, Tera offers much more to explore. The historic Darbargadh features remarkable Ramayana frescoes, while the Shamlaji Parshwanath Jain temple is known for its sculptures and glass paintings. The village is also famous for its three interconnected man-made lakes, an impressive example of traditional water conservation and engineering.
