At the western edge of Kutch, Koteshwar Mahadev Temple stands where the desert landscape meets the Arabian Sea. Visit this peaceful Shiva temple for its spiritual atmosphere, coastal views and unforgettable sunset experience.
Koteshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the most distinctive spiritual destinations in western Kutch, located where the vast dry landscape meets the Arabian Sea. The temple sits close to Narayan Sarovar and offers visitors a peaceful combination of devotion, dramatic coastal scenery and a sense of being at the far western edge of India.
According to local tradition, the temple is associated with the story of Ravana and Lord Shiva. The legend says that Ravana received a powerful Shiva linga but accidentally placed it at Koteshwar, after which multiple similar lingas appeared and the original remained here. Today, visitors come to offer prayers, explore the temple surroundings and enjoy the sea views. Koteshwar also makes a natural stop on a western Kutch circuit covering Narayan Sarovar and Lakhpat.
