Gandhi Nu Gaam, also known as Ludiya, is a traditional village in the Banni region of Kutch. It is located approximately 70 km from Bhuj and close to the Khavda region. The village is recognised as a destination where visitors can experience traditional Kutch handicrafts and rural architecture.
The village became particularly significant after the devastating 2001 Gujarat earthquake. Ludiya was rebuilt as part of the post-earthquake rehabilitation effort, with traditional bhunga architecture incorporated into the new settlement. The circular bhungas, with thick walls and conical roofs, are a distinctive feature of Kutch's traditional architecture.
Gandhi Nu Gaam is also known for its local artisans. Visitors can find traditional Kutchi embroidery, bead jewellery, wooden decorative items, carved woodwork, textiles and other handmade products. These crafts form an important part of the village's cultural identity and provide livelihoods for local artisan families.
The decorated bhungas are one of the highlights of a visit. Traditional mud work, mirror decoration and detailed craftsmanship can be seen in and around the houses. The architecture also demonstrates how traditional Kutch building techniques were adapted to the region's harsh climate and seismic conditions.
Gandhi Nu Gaam can be included in a Banni and Great Rann sightseeing route along with Khavda, Kala Dungar and other craft villages of northern Kutch.
